a thought:

This week my school is having a spirit week to lead up to our "Peppermint Paradise" dance.  Today was a class colors day and my grade is green so of course I dressed up.  School went well, but what I really want to talk about happened after school.  We gave my friend Olivia a ride home and then went down to a beauty store to get some product for one of my Mom's clients.  On our way in a grown man in a van began to visibly laugh (at me).  In his defense, I was wearing a tutu, a trench coat/jacket, and bone tights all at the same time, and he probably thought that I was just some teenager trying to express myself (and seriously what is wrong with that?), but it still bothered me.  I guess what I am getting at is that you shouldn't laugh at anyone, even if you are one of those people who thinks that no one can see them when they are in their car (Nose picker...  I saw you!) It hurts!  Luckily, this cute little Asian lady in the store said I looked cute, and I felt fine because I valued her opinion more than his.  Just remember that whether you like it or not, everyone has feelings.

(note:  This same thing happened to me in sixth grade too.  I was wearing leg warmers and we were walking into the library, and a man stopped and said "I haven't seen leg warmers in ages!" Actually, I think I kind of made him happy, so I was okay with that.  People and there trends... )

Isn't this cute?  I think I'll try it this Sunday maybe.  Tie a ribbon around your foot to add a little something to your plain flats.

I've been waiting for a while now, and I finally decided to buy a couple new The Format t-shirts.  :) Yay.

This cute dress is from madewell.  It's too expensive for my budget, but a girl can dream right?

(source) There was a new hyperbole and a half post!  Hurrah!

I know this is a dang short inspiration post! I'm sorry!  I love the images though.  I think that quality is better than quantity.  I've been learning a lot about that in seminary and church lately.  Anyway, lets get back on topic.  Last week my sister had a volleyball tournament which was a great opportunity to shoot some new photos.  This means that coming up soon I will have a photography post, and I'm excited for this one!  Also, coming up soon my family is going to help my uncle move to his new house, so I'm sure that there will be opportunity to find inspiration and opportunities to shoot new photos there too.  So, maybe I'll mix it up a little bit and have a written post with my own photographs for my next inspiration piece.  I've been meaning to get up some outfit posts and sketches and add to my art gallery (because lets face it, it's kind of sad.) Below, I'll post a new cover I found of Born to die by Lana Del Rey by no1andycar5 on YouTube.  I recently found out about Lana Del Rey (she was the free song on itunes!) and I really love her sound.  There are a lot of great covers of her songs, but this one just kind of stuck out to me!  I really should keep up my weekly song posts, because I've been able to find a lot of cool new songs lately.  I'm not going to lie though, my blog isn't necessarily first priority.  I LOVE blogging, don't get me wrong.  It just so happens that I'm a horrible procrastinator.  Actually I'm doing it as I type, and as you can see, when I actually do write in my posts I end up rambling on for quite a long time.  I think I need to stop now.  Have a wonderful rest of your week! Love -Megan

ps- Hannah:  I hope you can see the pictures in this post!  I tried getting them to my blog from other places than pinterest this time so hopefully you can see them! Let me know :) xoxo

Butterflies

Pinned Image
As far as I'm concerned, butterflies are the most beautiful creatures out there.  They're so thin and slight, almost fragile, but still quick and hard to capture.  When I was on vacation in California, we went to a mission filled with garden and flowers.  There were butterflies every once in a while, and I couldn't believe how difficult it was to get a good picture of them.  I guess that just makes the pictures I did get more special.

FHE: Goals,lists, and organization

I'm in the process of putting together an organization page (in the bar above).  I noticed today that I've posted quite a bit about organization and lists, so I'll start compiling things there soon! Until then-  It's the beginning of the year, and because it is custom to start off with new goals, my Family Home Evening lesson is on Goals, lists, and organization.  I'm finding a whole bunch of helpful and very interesting things in my research, so instead of posting my condensed lesson here, I'm going to post a lot of the things that I will make up my lesson.  I've found a lot of great organization charts and daily calendars (which I'll post below), and also some great quotes and tips from church leaders. Hope it's helpful! -Megan

TIPS
  •  Keep your goals somewhere you can see them.  If you aren't constantly reminded of the things you want to do, they won't happen. Pinned Image
I have done this in my own room, and I can honestly say from experience, that is very helpful!  I can see my papers, goals, and inspirations every day and they are always in the back of my mind because of it. This leads me to my second tip...
  • Sticky Notes! Don't be afraid to use them everywhere!  My number one use for them is to remind me to wake up/ pray in the morning/ call someone/whatever.  If I know that I won't get out of bed in the morning, I'll put a note up on my wall right where I know I'll be looking in the morning.  Something like "Hey Megan, get your lazy but out of bed and take a shower!", usually works just fine.  Be careful though! I had to take quite a few down when my family came in town and used my room for the week.  I didn't really think they wanted to know that I needed to get out of bed to crimp my hair on Thursday or finish reading my book report story before leaving.
  • Your goals CANNOT work against each other.  Elder Dean L. Larson of the seventy said it perfectly in a devotional at BYU on May 13, 1980.
"Unless the goals and objectives an individual works toward are harmonious with his general purpose in life, a devastating kind of internal conflict can develop which is destructive to happiness and personal development. Appropriate, useful goals and objectives must be a direct outgrowth of one’s perceived purpose in life. Otherwise they can lead to a random expenditure of effort and resources that may not contribute effectively to long-range progress. " - Dean L. Larson
  • There are two types of goals: short term and long term.  Long term goals are lifetime goals that must be built up to and worked towards.  Short term goals and goals that help us work towards finishing our long term goals.
An example:  You want to make an apple pie.  Your long term goal: Make an apple pie from scratch by January 28th.  You've given yourself and goal and a time limit.  Now you need to break this goal into a few sections.  An example of these might be:

1. find a recipe
2. buy the ingredients
3. plan a day that you will have enough time (not in a rush) to accurately and comfortably achieve your goal.
4. Make your attempt.

By breaking your long term goal into pieces, you are able to check things off along the way and understand where in the process you are.

 TYPES OF LISTS
  1. Daily planners
  2. Monthly Calendars
  3. Grocery lists
  4. To do lists
  5. Meal planning
  6. Digital (Apps and cell phone notes)
  7. Goals
TYPES OF GOALS
  1. Physical
  2. Spiritual/Religious
  3. Educational
  4. Social
  5. Emotional
  6. Developmental (talents)

(source) I was completely in love with this look, and overall article from teen vogue when I read it a couple of days ago.  The styling in this shoot was impeccable!

... and here's a wonderful song that I found on pinterest to study to last week.  I was totally and completely stressed out about a final, and this song was the perfect thing to listen to at the time.  Everything else seemed to be either too distracting or ridiculously boring. I'll put it up as my song of the week hopefully tomorrow.  Until then, here it is! I feel like it fits in perfectly with all of the things that have inspired me this week.

Curly hair with no heat tutorial from lovemaegan on youtube

I haven't gotten the guts to try this on my own (fairly short) hair, but I figured I'd post it here.  I think I'll maybe try it over break (when no one can see the result :) Anyway, I think it's a good idea.  It reminds me of having my mom french braid my hair wet, and then having wavy hair for a day or two when I was little.  Enjoy! -Megan

Hi! I tryed this out yesterday on my younger sister, and just wanted to post a few after thoughts.  She has much shorter hair than the woman in the video, probably three inches below shoulder length, but very healthy hair with hardly any layers.  If you have layers, this will be difficult (but doable.)  We used nylon (like the material used in tights) instead of bobby pins, to tie up her hair, (like this video shows, and the curls ended up really tight, and pretty frizzy.  It was cute, but next time I'll have to be really careful to keep the curls evenly twisted so the resulting curls won't look uneven. Good luck!
